Van Barneveld Reconsiders Retirement Less Than 24 Hours after Announcing It
Barely 24 hours after announcing his retirement with immediate effect, Raymond van Barneveld has decided that he will continue his career for the remainder of the year. He had reconsidered his earlier decision to retire.
Raymond van Barneveld has now recommitted to his earlier plan of bowing out at the PDC World Championships 2019-20.
The Big Announcement
On Thursday, the Dutch legend made an announcement that would cease playing with immediate effect. The announcement came after a back-to-back Premier League Darts defeats in Rotterdam. Initially, he had planned to continue until the close of the coming World Darts Championship that begins in December. Barneveld revealed that his life has been on a roller coaster of emotions. He noted that in a statement released on Friday.
Elimination from the Premier League
Raymond van Barneveld had earlier been eliminated from the Premier League due to huge defeats in Rotterdam. The 5-time world champion had to slash an emotional figure as he announced to end his long-time career. However, before the news could sink much more profound, the player made a quick reconsideration to his illustrious career.
It took the invention of the player’s manager to make things clear. The manager suggested that the player made the decision while in a hurry. He said that Raymond van Barneveld has since acknowledged that he was too fast to make such a call.
Clarifying the Issues
On Friday, the Professional Darts Corporation – PDC released a new statement in regards to the player’s announcement. Through the statement, the world champion had explained his abrupt U-town. He referenced the effect of a series of tribulations that he has faced in his personal life. He talked about the numerous problems that he has encountered in his private life like a dart player. He said that he had to take all that pain on a stage.
The Player is Grateful to All
Raymond van Barneveld, however, expressed his appreciation to have been given an opportunity to play in the premier league. His main intention was to show the world the true colors of Barney. He notes that it was the only glimpses that he could offer.
Van Barneveld narrated how his problems got the better of him, and he was usually catching up to his opponents on stage. Those are the emotions that confronted him together, and he could not handle them all at that particular moment.
The shame engulfed him on stage in front of his whole family. The shame even did not spare the Barney Army and his close friends. He felt that he had let everyone down and he could not handle that pain. All he wanted was never to feel that kind of shame again in his life. Later on, he would learn about the harm he caused by speaking out like that when engulfed with such raw emotion.
He went further to note that he would wish to bring an end to his long-time career at the Alexandra Palace. He hopes that will occur during one of the last tournament of the World Championships.
His Main Hope
After all these, Van Barneveld has one main hope. His main concern is that all people will understand the hard times that his family has had to undergo. He stated that he strongly needs to get his head together after all that happened. Even though he announced that he would return to the pitch, he still deserves a break. The international star noted that he would take some days off. When he returns, his main focus will be on the floor tournaments.
