Loto Quebec Adding Evolution Gaming Live Casino in French
In the very near future, Loto Quebec will become the third Canadian provincial gambling company to provide a live casino powered by Evolution Gaming.
Recently, Stockholm-listed Evolution Gaming announced that the company reached a deal to provide online casino games to online gambling site Espacejeux.com. Quebec is the second most populated province in Canada, so the gaming venture is likely to be a success. The gaming activities will soon be available on both mobile and desktop devices.
The casino offering will be labeled locally as “Casino en direct,” which caters specifically to Quebec, since most of the people in the province speak French. There will be six dedicated tables, and five of them will be operated in French. In addition to these tables, four more gaming tables from the Evolution, the live studio in Vancouver, will be added.
What Executives Are Saying about Loto Quebec
Sovanna Phan, the online product manager for Loto Quebec, stated that the Crown Corporation is “thrilled” about the addition of the live casino to its digital services. Phan adds that the new addition “fits hand in glove with our click-and-mortar strategy to engage with customers both online and face-to—face at our casinos.”
James Stern, the chief business officer for Evolution, celebrated the impressive track record of his company in providing consumers with native-speaking games and services. Stern predicted the new French-language gaming tables from Loto Quebec will likely be a prime selling point in the province’s fight to provide gambling websites that are internationally licensed.
Evolution’s Additional Offerings
Evolution introduced its initial Canadian-facing operation last year with the PlayNow.com website from the British Columbia Lottery Corporation. The corporation provides Manitoba’s monopoly online operations as well. The Vancouver studio marked the first time Evolution had a presence in North America. Evolution has since opened a successful studio in New Jersey that caters to the regulated online gaming market in the state.
Espace-jeux has posted growth year after year that exceeds other gambling verticals by Loto Quebec. In terms of percentage, the annual revenue continues to lag its BC rival. The most recent annual report for Loto Quebec revealed online revenue of C$118m (US $88.7 million).
The History of Gambling in Canada
Gambling is often thought of as a fairly new phenomenon in Canada. However, the practice has been in the country for quite some time. Canada officially became a country in 1867, and history suggests the natives were trying their luck with gambling games even before then.
John Cabot discovered the natives in the land that is now Canada were playing games of chance as early as 1497. The natives played these games to enhance their mental, spiritual, and even physical growth. Cabot did more research into the games and found that people in the area were gambling even earlier than 1497, with games dating back to 6000 BC.
Gambling activities like cards and dice weren’t popular back then. The gambling scenes of the past included using pebbles and sticks. However, the concept of gambling is fairly similar to today’s games. However, time would reveal that just because these games were once respectable doesn’t mean they would remain that way.
The Gambling Ban and More Changes
The Canadian Criminal Code of 1892 banned gambling in all forms. However, the ban didn’t last very long. The change in times also changed society’s view on gambling. Raffles and bingo were allowed for charitable purposes. A decade later, horse racing became an acceptable way to gamble. Later, in 1925, gambling events were permitted at exhibitions and fairs. The Canadian government began to see the significant value in lotteries in 1969. This led to the Criminal Code amendment, which allowed both provincial and federal governments to fund special projects and run lotteries.
