Itoje to make comeback after injury

Itoje to make comeback after injury

Maro Itoje is set for a comeback after a 9-week injury sidelined the England star. Itoje will be returning to help his team through to the semis in a quarter-final clash with Glasgow this weekend. Itoje will start at the back row.

The 24-year-old had suffered a knee injury on February 2nd during England’s victory over Ireland in a Six Nations tie. Itoje who plays lock for his nation will play flanker in Saturday’s match at Allianz ark. He will be looking forward to partner with fellow England teammate George Kruis and Australian International Will Skelton.

Changes in the team

His inclusion will likely see Liam Williams stretch to the wings while Alex Goode moves to the full back position. George Krius will be unchanged in his second-row position while Christian judge and Richard Barrington are set to join Jamie George in the front row. These are the only changes that Saracen makes in a side that secured a victory over Harlequins at London stadium

Meanwhile, Ben Spencer, Saracen’s center half will be looking for a memorable 150th appearance for his team. Billy Vunipola and Owen Farrell  are also in the starting 15.

England’s six-nation campaign blow

England team lost to WalesThe Eddie Jones team at the Six Nations cup seemed to miss the vital services of Maro Itoje’s in the matches following his injury sideline. The England team lost to Wales, who went on to be the eventual champions. The England team also drew with Scotland in a match where they were favorites.

Itoje had left the stadium on crutches and England’s fear of losing the star became a reality a few days later. Despite the loss, England carried the day as they went on to win over Ireland, who was the defending champions.

England coach Eddie Jones showered praise on Itoje crediting him as one of the best locks in the world. Itoje’s replacement of Joe Launchbury could not do the trick as the team went on to lose the next match to wales

Itoje would have returned much earlier

Itoje was scheduled to return much earlier before England’s clash with Italy, but remained doubtful after limping off training days prior to the game.

The forward was performing drills when he appeared to hurt in the same joint he had suffered damage a couple of weeks ago. Interestingly, he sustained the injury on coach Jone’s watch as he fed him the ball for a run towards the post.

England attack coach Scott Wisemantel had refused to rule Itoje out of Italy’s clash and insisted the injury was nothing serious. However, after a medical report, it was a cause for concern.

Forwards coach Steve Borthwick came forward and admitted that Itoje would not be in the squad to face Italy at Twickenham. He, however, revealed that there was progress in the rehab and everything was going on well.

Itoje’s backfired comeback, however, did not stop England from thrashing Italy. Prior to their meeting, Italy had not won any of their last 20 Six Nations matches while England was unbeaten during all their previous meetings. England was a clear favorite. However, Borthwick was wary of underestimating his opponent.

Stuart Hogg returns for Glasgow in the weekend

Stuart HoggMeanwhile, Glasgow will be looking to unleash the talents of Stuart Hogg. The full-back looks forward to making a return to his team coming from a shoulder injury he had incurred during his Six Nations duty for Scotland.

Hogg will be appearing for his team for the first time in seven weeks. Glasgow will be looking to revive the half back combination of Adam Hastings and Sam Johnson, who will be set for a return from duty at the Six Nations championship. Ali price will also be featured in the squad.
