Chelsea’s Danny Drinkwater charged with drunk driving after crashing Range Rover

Chelsea and England midfielder Danny Drinkwater has reportedly been charged with drink driving following a car crash that occurred in the early hours of Monday morning in Mere, Cheshire.

According to reports, the 29 year old was driving from a party when his Range Rover drove into a Skoda at a few minutes past midnight on Monday. Drinkwater and a female passenger who he is said to have met at the party in Hale were treated for minor injuries along with the female Skoda driver at the scene of the crash.

The crash is reported to have been serious with debris left scattered across the road with other sources, even claiming that a fence was also flattened.

The crash happened just hours before the Blues beat West Ham at Stamford Bridge in which he had not been included.

Drink Driving Charge

Danny DrinkwaterIn a statement, the Cheshire Police said that the 29-year-old Nether Alderly native has been given a drink driving charge following the early Monday morning incident in Cheshire.

From the statement, Drinkwater was arrested a little while after 12.30 am on Monday, 8 April when the police were notified of a single-vehicle crash on Ashley road in Mere.

The statement also says that, Drinkwater has been set free on unconditional bail and he is expected to appear before the Stockport Magistrate’s Court on Monday 13 May.

If found guilty, the former Manchester United trainee risks facing penalties such as losing his license for at least a year, having a criminal record, faces prison time of up to six months and a fine not exceeding 5,000 pounds.

According to reports, Drinkwater had attended a charity event that was held at an upmarket bar in Hale, Greater Manchester is known as Victors that is approximately 6 miles from his home. The event’s fancy dressed attendees had been requested to dress like ‘chavs’.

Reports claim that the female passenger in the unmarried father of one’s car during the crash was glamorous lawyer Beth Mantel whom he had met at the party.

Cesc Fabregas, Drinkwater’s former teammate at Stamford even took to Twitter to poke fun at him by tweeting ‘Danny Drinkwhat?’ The tweet was a reply to another tweet that revealed the footballer had been charged.
