Chelsea’s Danny Drinkwater charged with drunk driving after crashing Range Rover
Chelsea and England midfielder Danny Drinkwater has reportedly been charged with drink driving following a car crash that occurred in the early hours of Monday morning in Mere, Cheshire.
According to reports, the 29 year old was driving from a party when his Range Rover drove into a Skoda at a few minutes past midnight on Monday. Drinkwater and a female passenger who he is said to have met at the party in Hale were treated for minor injuries along with the female Skoda driver at the scene of the crash.
The crash is reported to have been serious with debris left scattered across the road with other sources, even claiming that a fence was also flattened.
The crash happened just hours before the Blues beat West Ham at Stamford Bridge in which he had not been included.
Drink Driving Charge
In a statement, the Cheshire Police said that the 29-year-old Nether Alderly native has been given a drink driving charge following the early Monday morning incident in Cheshire.
From the statement, Drinkwater was arrested a little while after 12.30 am on Monday, 8 April when the police were notified of a single-vehicle crash on Ashley road in Mere.
The statement also says that, Drinkwater has been set free on unconditional bail and he is expected to appear before the Stockport Magistrate’s Court on Monday 13 May.
If found guilty, the former Manchester United trainee risks facing penalties such as losing his license for at least a year, having a criminal record, faces prison time of up to six months and a fine not exceeding 5,000 pounds.
According to reports, Drinkwater had attended a charity event that was held at an upmarket bar in Hale, Greater Manchester is known as Victors that is approximately 6 miles from his home. The event’s fancy dressed attendees had been requested to dress like ‘chavs’.
Reports claim that the female passenger in the unmarried father of one’s car during the crash was glamorous lawyer Beth Mantel whom he had met at the party.
Cesc Fabregas, Drinkwater’s former teammate at Stamford even took to Twitter to poke fun at him by tweeting ‘Danny Drinkwhat?’ The tweet was a reply to another tweet that revealed the footballer had been charged.
Drinkwater’s Football Career
Danny Drinkwater started his football career at the Manchester Academy where he joined at the age of nine. However, he did not make it to the Red Devil’s first team by the time he was sold to Leicester City back in 2012.
The midfielder played an integral role in helping the team to be promoted to the premier league in 2014 as well as the team’s unexpected and historic premier league title win in 2015-16 before his move to Chelsea.
The 35 Million Pound Unsuccessful Move
Drinkwater has had quite a struggle at Stamford Bridge and has made only 23 appearances for the blues since signing in 2017. He has also been frozen out all season by Italian manager Maurizio Sarri and has not played any competitive game in 13 months.
The three times capped England international last played for Chelsea in August against Manchester City in the community shield.
Chelsea signed the midfielder for 35million pounds after winning the premier league title with Leicester in 2015-16.
The Blue’s View on the Matter
Last Night, a Chelsea representative revealed that the club is aware of the reports, but are refraining to comment on the matter until the police’s ongoing investigation is complete and all the facts have been established.
Following the incident, Chelsea’s chiefs are more likely to take a dim view of the matter and it might leave Drinkwater open to in-house disciplinary penalties.
