Almond Eye Main Attraction at the Dubai Turf
The Japanese’ Almond Eye will be the central attraction in the forthcoming Dubai turf. The 4-year-old filly of Sakae Kunieda is already undefeated in five starts, including top-tier victories at the Japanese oaks, Japanese 1000 guineas, and the November Japan cup
Reports suggest that York’s Ebor in August could be her next stop. It will be a stepping-stone before proceeding to achieve her long-term goal of reaching the Prix Larc de Triomphe at the Paris Longchamp.
But before getting there, it is important to get over nine furlongs during the Group One assignment this weekend.
We Are Ready-Kunieda
Kunieda says his stable star already loves the Dubai environment. He adds that, since arriving in Dubai, she is more relaxed than ever and her appetite is great. Kunieda was speaking to the media after witnessing his stable, enjoy a spin on the tracks the same morning
Kunieda also spoke highly of Dubai as the home for the big races, and after his success in the Japan cup, it was definite that Dubai would be the next stopping point. The Almond Eye won the Japan Cup after leading the pack from the front. The other races had seen her come from the back
Christophe Lemaire, her leading jockey helped steer Almond Eye to her four victories. Christophe could not hide his excitement in racing Almond Eye in yet another event at the weekend. He will be looking to relish the opportunity to renew the partnership at the weekend.
He also asserted that Almond Eye is special for any kind of trip and race. He spoke highly of the filly’s abilities, crediting Almond Eye for her intelligence and ability to understand everything. Christophe added that the filly was not just special on the track but also in his life as well.
The Biggest Threat
The biggest threat to Almond Eye appears to be Saeed bin Suroor has trained Dream Castle. The filly is three in three wins this year at the Meydan. He was coming off from striking gold at Group One level three weeks ago in Jebel Hatta.
His saddler bin Suroor, who also saddles the Mountain Hunter says that his filly is in great shape and good form. Suroor also acknowledged the Japanese filly abilities, but was positive that his horse would get into a great position and jump well. He would also be looking out for his other filly, the Mountain Hunter, whom he says likes to take chances near the front
It won’t be the first time thaCastlem castle upsets tournament favorites. He has just come from doing so in Jebel Hatta where Charlie Appleby’s Wooton was the favorite. Wootton ended up settling for the runner’s up spot. He will also be attending the Dubai event
Appleby Hopes To Maintain Form
Charlie Appleby spoke highly of his horse saying he was pleased with his filly’s run, stepping up to reach nine furlongs. Appleby added that if his stable would maintain the form, then he would be very competitive in the placings. Appleby also says that he has Almond Eye on his watch as he looks to secure an upset for the tournament favorite.
Jahbath will be also be putting his unbeaten run on the line. He was a runner up in his debut race in Salisbury October last year. The filly has won he follow up novice races.
Now, he has traveled well and everyone is happy with the filly. Haggas adds that the Dubai competition is high but the stable star will be up to the task.
The handler also says that judging by Charlie Appleby’s Divine Image standards, a bad jump will be detrimental to any horse in the race.
