The Portuguese Casinos Association (APC) said the Court of Port considered that Betandwin.com had violated the exclusive right given to casinos for the exploit of chance games, therefore the company’s activity is considered illegal in Portugal.

The Court of Port sentenced that the contract is against the law, and also the publicity they use could go against the Portuguese code of publicity. In spite of all this, the sentence doesn’t obligate the company to suspend the sponsor contract, and that is the reason why APC is appealing the decision.

The Santa Casa de la Misericordia de Lisboa (SCML), which controls the social games in Portugal, also announced the appeal of the decision, since they want the suspension of the contract.

Last September, the APC and the SCML presented to the court the necessary information to stop Betandwin.com from sponsoring the Portuguese Soccer League. In August, a contract signed between the company and LPFP, which obligated to change the name of the championship.
The Portuguese championship switched its name to Betandwin.com League, since this company substituted the preceding sponsor, Galp Energía, throughout four seasons and with 2 million euros per campaign.
