British spent 50 billion pounds (about 88 billion dollars) on gambling last year, which is more than the money spent by the government on defense and transport together. The statistics show that in average each person gambled 1400 dollars in 2005, seven times as much as the bets registered in 2001.
The number is expected to grow enormously this year due to the amazing development of Internet gambling all along the United Kingdom.
The government helped to turn gambling into one of the most lucrative businesses in the country, as it has loosen the laws concerning hazard games and promised to build more casinos and gambling establishments, according to an article published by The Daily Telegraph.
A group of researchers form the University of Nottingham Trent, who developed the report, assures that these changes will increase the demand for gambling games and will give about three billion pounds to the Exchequer through gaming taxes.
